Description
Description
A striking embodiment of 1970s Midcentury Modern design, “Birds in Flight” is a dynamic radial sunburst sculpture rendered in metal, capturing the fluid motion of birds soaring outward in harmonious formation. Crafted with bold geometry and elegant abstraction, this piece features stylized avian forms radiating from a central point, evoking both the energy of the sun and the grace of flight.
Executed in welded and textured metal with a warm patina—often brass, copper, or mixed alloys—the sculpture balances organic motion with architectural precision. Each “bird” arcs outward in a sweeping gesture, creating a sense of movement frozen in time. Ideal for wall display, its dimensionality and shadow play lend dramatic presence in natural or directed light.
Attributed to the golden age of postwar decorative arts, this sculpture reflects the influence of artists like Curtis Jere and the atomic-age fascination with motion, nature, and modernism. A captivating centerpiece for collectors of vintage design, “Birds in Flight” offers both sculptural impact and timeless appeal.
