Description

Large Victorian Giltwood Oval Mirror

A magnificent oversized Victorian oval mirror, featuring an ornate giltwood frame with beautifully detailed decorative mouldings. The frame is adorned with intricate beaded detailing and a repeating carved motif, complemented by an elaborate foliate crest at the top and decorative embellishments to the base.

The decorative motif has areas of loss, with some elements missing from the frame. Rather than detracting from its appeal, these imperfections reflect the mirror’s age and history, adding to its individual character and time-worn charm.

With its impressive proportions and richly aged golden finish, this statement mirror brings a sense of grandeur and character to an interior. Ideal for a period property or as a striking focal point within a more contemporary setting, it would sit beautifully above a console, fireplace or in a spacious entrance hall.

A substantial and characterful piece with all the presence expected of a large Victorian decorative mirror.

Condition

Condition Report

In keeping with its age, this impressive Victorian mirror displays areas of wear and age-related deterioration to the frame. The original gilding is missing in places, with some losses to the decorative motif and carved detailing. There are further signs of age and wear throughout, adding to its authentic, time-worn appearance.

We feel these imperfections contribute greatly to the mirror’s character, charm and provenance, reflecting its history and the passage of time. It remains a striking and decorative statement piece.

Please study the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition report.
