Description
Description
A bold expression of 1980s design, this blue adjustable desk lamp designed by Terence Conran for Habitat in 1983 channels the playful energy of the Memphis movement with a distinctly British twist. The lamp features a dynamic postmodern silhouette with geometric forms and vibrant color contrast—most notably the electric blue finish, accented by a matte black base and joints. Both sculptural and functional, the lamp’s adjustable arm and pivoting head allow for flexible positioning, making it ideal for desk or task lighting.
True to the Memphis aesthetic, this piece balances whimsy with a strong graphic presence. It embodies the optimistic, anti-minimalist spirit of 1980s postmodern design, while also reflecting Conran’s mission at Habitat to make cutting-edge design accessible to everyday interiors. A rare surviving example of high street postmodernism, this lamp is both a collectible design object and a nostalgic nod to an era of fearless creativity.
